Liturgy and Lectio: Jubilee Gratitude

What shall I render to the Lord for all the things He hath rendered unto me? ~Psalm 115(116):12

A Sister shares her reflections: The occasion of a Jubilee brought back the words of this psalm to me. How grateful I am to the Lord for all the things He hath rendered unto me. Looking back, I can see how God was working in my life, beginning with the gift of Baptism and faith, and how God nurtured me in a loving, Catholic family, and preserved me from more things than I probably know. The psalm continues, I will take the chalice of salvation, and in my context, the words of Jesus to Sts. James and John come to mind, Can you drink the chalice…? In the beginning of my religious vocation, my thought was: Will I be able to carry the cross with fidelity and grow in the spiritual life? Again, the psalm continues, I will call upon the name of the Lord. His grace and loving presence continually sustained me. As I keep looking back, I can see how a particular set of circumstances helped me grow in a particular way; and later how another circumstance led to a deeper appreciation of my vocation in another way. I will pay my vows to the Lord in the sight of all His people. What a privilege to be a Spouse of Christ and to have been chosen to give Him everything!
